Prof. Dr. Dilip Shankarrao Patil has been working as the Director of Lifelong Learning and Extension at the University of Mumbai since 2006 for the last 15 years. Under his guidance 34786 students and 900 teachers from 314 colleges are doing extension work in Konkan division. It is implementing various projects for students and the public. These include various projects like ‘Skill Development’, ‘Business Guidance’, ‘Entrepreneurship’, ‘Information Technology’, ‘Population Education’, ‘Status of Women in Society’, ‘Work Experience in Industrial Sector’, ‘Open Education is Home Schooling’.
Professor Patil has guided a total of 15 students for PhD in ‘Rural Development’. Of these, seven students have been awarded doctorates and eight are active.
He was the Principal of St. Joseph’s College, Agashi Virar West for three years from 2004 to 2006 and also from 1990 to 2004 as an Assistant Professor at St. GG’s College, Vasai.
He has written fifteen books on rural development. He also works as a trainer for Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission for Teachers Training, Government of India. He is representing the Asia division on the board of directors of the Community Development Society, USA
Originally from Sonawade, Bambawade Taluka, Shahuwadi District, Kolhapur, he holds BA in Economics and Political Science, BA in Rural Development, MA in Rural Development, MBAPHD in Rural Development. He has over thirty years of experience in research and training in the field of higher education.
Apart from education, he has been involved in many social activities. For the last 40 years, he has been the President of Nirmiti Foundation, a non-governmental organization formed from Ruia College, a national service scheme. His area of work is the eastern tribal hill station in Vasai taluka.
Patil had received a full-time Fellowship of the Jamnalal Bajaj Pratishthan for six years from 1984 to 1990. Through this, they have implemented projects like ‘Education, Youth and Rural Sports’, ‘Women and Child Welfare’, ‘Social Forestry’, ‘Proper Technology’, ‘Sewage’, ‘Animal Husbandry Management’, ‘Toilet’, ‘Dung Gas’ etc.
Under the Parliament Adarsh Gram Vikas Yojana, Professor Patil introduced ‘Drinking Water Development Scheme’, ‘Irrigation’, ‘Gymnasium’, ‘Anganwadi’, ‘Dalitvasti Improvement Program’, ‘Gram Panchayat Building Construction’, ‘Shoshkhadde’, ‘Lake Construction’ etc. in Sonwade village. Works have been done.
During the Corona period, he has distributed 17,500 arsenic albums in seven districts of Konkan.
